About the Recipe

Why Coconut Oil is the Best Base

Coconut oil isn’t just a carrier — it brings natural bug-fighting power and skin benefits:
Natural repellent: Studies show fatty acids in coconut oil (like lauric acid) repel mosquitoes, ticks, and other biting insects.

Long-lasting: Coconut oil helps the essential oils “stick” to the skin longer, so you don’t have to reapply as often.

Skin-loving: It moisturizes, soothes irritation, and reduces itch if you do get bitten.
Kid-friendly: Gentle and non-toxic, making it ideal for family-safe recipes.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup coconut oil (base oil)

  • 2 tbsp beeswax pellets (gives the balm firmness)

  • 1 tbsp shea butter (optional, adds creaminess + nourishes skin)

  • 10 drops of citronella essential oil
